Mindfulness-Based (CBT)
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MCBT) is a modern variant of CBT. It incorporates Buddhist principles and psychology into traditional Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. MCBT extends CBT by adding the component of how we relate to our thoughts. It has been shown to improve CBT outcomes, particularly in the area of preventing the relapse of mood disorders. It decreases relapse of mood disorders by a further 50%. It is also being researched as an add-on to other effective therapies to treat various psychological problems, including anxiety disorders and traumatic stress. To be an effective mindfulness coach, a therapist needs to be a practitioner of meditation and mindfulness practices in their own life.
