About Heather MacPhee

I am a registered Occupational Therapist (O.T.). After graduating in 2012 as an O.T., I began pursuing my passion of working in the mental health field. I have worked in both pediatric and adult mental health, in both community settings and inpatient services. I strive to individualize and tailor treatments for each client to support them in reaching their goals. As an Occupational Therapist my training has taught me to be client-focused and to work with clients to improve their everyday functioning. I enjoy continuous learning which has led me to pursue training in several therapy modalities to support multiple mental health problems. I have training and experience working with clients who experience anxiety, low mood, difficulties with emotional regulation, suicidality and disruptive behaviors, ADHD, complex developmental and adult trauma, Borderline Personality Disorder, and providing caregivers support and skills. I am trained in motivational interviewing, CBT, DBT, EMDR, Zones of Regulation, exposure therapy, use of the ARC model for trauma, and sensory strategies/integration.

I pride myself in providing an open, warm, empathic and non judgemental space for clients. I use humor to build a strong therapeutic relationship with clients. I strive to ensure that all therapies are client centered and will work with children/youth, and their caregivers, to collaboratively choose the modality that will best suit their needs and build on their strengths in working towards reaching their therapy goals. I like to build confidence in clients and their support systems by celebrating both small and large milestones on their way to achieving the life they have envisioned for themselves.
