Our Response to the Recent Tragedy in Nova Scotia
The team at Lesley Hartman & Associates Inc. would like to express our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the recent tragedy in our province. We grieve with you, as Nova Scotians. Your loved ones made our communities more beautiful and better places to live, and we grieve the loss of their light. To you, and to the RCMP and other first responders who were so intimately connected to this tragedy, and who serve our communities so bravely and faithfully, we want you to know that we are here for you.
If you are experiencing post-trauma reactions such as trouble sleeping, nightmares, intrusive images of the events, depressed mood, anxiety, hypervigilance, or other troublesome symptoms, please know that these go beyond just grief, and although they are common reactions to such a tragic event, reprieve from them is only a phone call away. The Association of Psychologists of Nova Scotia has a roster of psychologists who are providing free services to all Nova Scotians who have been affected by this tragedy. These services can provide you a reprieve from the worst of the trauma symptoms, so that you can grieve without the additional burden of the fear and agitation that can arise from such an event.
At Lesley Hartman & Associates, we are actively engaged in helping with the emotional recovery effort in our province. Aside from some of us volunteering on the roster of Psychologists, we have also partnered with APNS and Niagara Stress and Trauma Clinic to provide advanced training to psychologists and other mental health workers, to equip them to better support you in your time of need. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any other ideas about how we can help.
With love and hope,
Lesley Hartman, M.A.
